MooSPEED IV - Build Diary
February 2004
Jobs
done since last update;
- Not much, been busy preparing for the new
baby

- Been pulling apart the wiring for the dashboard,
I've been doing the wiring for ages now and its still not ready. Everything
apart from indicators has now been wired up but it's a real mess so
I've now started pulling it all apart and routing through sturdy sleeving.
Could've saved time had I done this first time round but no matter...
- Modified the neck to the crank-breather/filter and
fitted it.
- Sourced and fitted some new machine screws for holding
down the carb bellmouths.
- Despite the carbs having a leak again like before
(see previous months valve-related moans) they've now gone back to working
again. I can only hope that there was some crud in the fuel line thats
now cleared. Don't particularly want the carbs to start dumping fuel
over a hot engine.
- I've been chopping up exhaust pipes with a view
to getting to a stage where I can fit either pipe, the quiet titanium
standard jobbie for SVA/MOT time and the Remus race version for road
use. As it happens the open Remus pipe is surprisingly subtle, not sure
it'd be so subtle at 11,750 rpm

| Don't worry - the wiring won't be quite
this messy when it's finished. I'll have a mass tidy up after I've
made sure it all works. |

Chopped up exhaust pipes.
From left to right; Std titanium can with pipe chopped off and front
ally capping removed, Remus open race can with the lugs chopped off
, Remus pipe chopped to length and slots cut
in for mikalor clamp to fit over the top and finally the R1 pipe -
can't remember what I'm doing with this one although I did cut off
the clamp end as it looked quite handy. |

I've also fitted the rear lights now.
These are called JK Crystalights and the idea is to have them recessed
into the rear bodywork. The recesses are OK but a bit shoddy quality-wise
to be honest I'll be able to sand them down and smooth
with filler and either paint with orange gelcoat or I might leave them
for the time being. I have a plan to paint the whole back panel with satin
black so these could be included then. I can see I'm going to have a to
try and have a fiddle in paintshop to see what it'd look like.
I've fitted the lights so they are proud
of the panel at the moment - the reason for this is that they need good
coverage on the line of sight tests on SVA. They'd probably be OK as they
are only recessed 1cm or so but I don't want to take any chances. Only
catch is that they look quite ugly at the moment as shown below.

Something I have forgotten to do is to
fit a number plate light. There is a standard number plate light that
everyone and his dog fits - I'm keen to avoid using this one if I can
but I can't seem to find anything decent. I've also bought about 4 or
5 sets of indicators/repeaters off of ebay but still can't find anything
I like.
Bit stumped to get something nice, legal
and SVA'able. As it's an orange car there's not much point fitting the
clear or smoked lenses. Will have to see...
