MooSPEED IV - Build Diary

May 2004

First off, I've finally taken some pictures outside. This is the first time out the garage since Christmas so until now I've not been able to get far away to take a full shot.

You'll notice the sidepod isn't on as yet - this is because I've yet to sort the exhaust out fully. The front end is OK I think but I'll need to source an exit pipe from somewhere. Very chuffed with the overall look of it - the orange is very bright this was on a rainy grey day and it still look OK.

Started the month with a trip to the kitcar show at Stoneleigh. Unfortunately it was all a bit rushed what with turning up late and having to leave at a reasonable time to get back.

I managed to get a few bits from the trade stands and had a chat with John Foster (R1 LoCost) and Chris Bradley (R1 Fury) from the Yahoo! BEC list. Click on the pictures of their cars to see more of them.

Although I cleared my camera out to take loads of photos I didn't really see that much of the actual car show. I did have a good look at the GT40's though - this is the plan for my next car. I'd call it a long-term project, say 5-10 years to build - although it could be said that this car is the long term project

This was built in my 20's

This is my 30's car (giving my age away)

Here's what I'll be doing when I'm 40

And here's one for my 50's

I've been doing a bit more with the dashboard, part of this is to make a carbon-fibre shroud to go around the digidash.

The dash is being recessed behind the dashboard panel by about 5-6cm's. This should keep the sunlight off the display and also help to make it look a bit more professional hopefully.

It does however mean that the two buttons will be well out of reach - they would've been anyway with the steering wheel in the way. Luckily it's been designed to have remote buttons so I'll be looking to add those somewhere. Ideally they'd be on the steering wheel so I may have to come up with a temporary solution until after SVA as I'll be swopping the wheel over then.

Finally, here are some pictures of my mate's car. Simon's car has appeared on MooSpeed before on the diary page for December 2002. Although he started 5 months after me he's now caught up and we're at similar stages of build. Both of us have our time tied up with work and family demands so we've got a bit of a challenge to see who can get finished first.
